Active Learning : Purposeful Play

Play for young(er) chidren is seen as "a good thing". It is often described as the child's "work" and "play-based" programmes abound. However play is frequently misunderstood and mis-applied, and it can have no educational value which is where purposeful play comes in. This session considers one view of Developmentally Appropriate play and how it can appear as an effective learning and teaching strategy.

This session is rooted in the Philosophies and Practices of Active Learning and of Developmentally Appropriate Practice, and provides plug-and-play, tried and true activities for incorporating play. This is one of our Cambridge Primary seminars for teachers in or seeking to join a Cambridge Primary Programme school. An awareness of the Cambridge Pathway and its underpinning approaches is assumed.

This session is also useful for teachers in experiential programmes such as High Scope, IB, Montessori and Reggio. Ask us about other programme and methodology coaching and about short courses for Early Years and the Lower Primary (G1 - 4 or 1º ciclo) level.
