You want evidence of your level of English, but which certification is best? Certificates can be very expensive, and you do not want to "invest" unwisely or even to invest without a positive return.
Delivered by a former Cambridge English, Cambridge International and IB teacher, and Cambridge representative in Chile, this one-hour session covers :
- What are the levels of which we speak?
- Are all levels the same?
EFL (English as a Foreign Language) certification
- for adults - General English, Business English or single skills?
- for children - primary age or teens?
- comprehensive or single-skills?
- certification or level or placement?
- which of the seven major UK certification providers is most appropriate?
- what about US certification providers?
- which certificate for academic applications and visa appplications?
- "lifetime" validity (not) v guarantee?
- Cambridge English C1 Advanced (CAE), Cambridge English C2 Proficiency (CPE), IELTS, TOEFL?
- what about local, Chilean, certificate providers?
EFL certificates are also useful or even required for entry to many or most Chilean universties, and for teachers of the Chilean National Curriculum. (Graduation as an English teacher in Chile requires a CEFR-C1 level, and as few school officials are able to assess this, they increasingly demand certification.)
E2L (English as a Second Language, aka "ESL") certification
- for advanced users and learners
- how is it different to EFL?
- which of the major UK certification providers is most appropriate?
- what about US?
- for children, for adults
- schools, institutes, companies
- which of the major UK certification providers is most appropriate?
- what about US?
For teachers in bilingual programmes, and for those who want to work, study or live internationally.

The session on certificates that I attended was very compact, insightful and incredibly useful. What a shame that most of the people who said were going to attend didn't.
