Teaching in the USA, information for Chilean teachers

Are you a Chilean teacher interested in or thinking of teaching in the USA? Second-semester (January) starts for exchange-teacher visas are in general no longer granted; appointments now run typically September - August (possibly late July for states like Az, NM). Top schools start hiring October - December; most schools recruit January - March.

It can take longer than you think to get everything organised; note the windows above and don't procrastinate, be proactive!

If you are interested in or thinking of teaching in the US, we can help. The session presenter was director of an immersion ("bilingual" wth five languages) international school in the US for ten years, interviewing and/or recruiting more than 100 international teachers, teacher assistants and interns. Much of the "advice" on socal media is inaccurate or incomplete and sorting the good from the bad can be at best difficult; find out what is and what is not from someone who has actually been on the hiring side.

  • Group open informational session, one-hour, via Meet
    • Visa requirements
      • what you can and cannot expect
      • the different visas available
      • (not) going it alone, taking your family
    • Positions and position requirements
    • Visa sponsors, organisations to consider and to avoid
    • Finding a position
    • Resume (a translated Chilean CV is not what US Principals look for)
    • Application
    • Caveats
      • why is the US so eager for foreign teachers?
      • are Chile-based or Chile-oriented recruiters reliable?
  • These are irregularly scheduled; complete the Contact Us form to the right to let us know of your interest.
  • One-to-one specific, targetted and focussed closed sessions as needed
    • General requirements and all the above
    • Resume and application letter support
    • Mock interview(s) and feedback using authentic interview scripts
  • These are scheduled as and when you need them; complete the Contact Us form to the right to let us know of your interest.

We do not receive fees from any organisation for providing this session; information and advice is neutral and comes from experience of hiring international teachers as a school director in the US. Check out "Teaching Internationally" about teaching in countries other than the US.
