January 2024 Professional Development and Personal Growth : CLIL and Immersion, Philosophy & Practice

Welcome to our fourth programme of summer professional development and support for teachers, educational leaders and administrators. CLIL, or Content and Language Integrated Learning, is linked to language immersion and to active learning practices. In its simplest form, CLIL is learning through the target language rather than learning of and need not be restricted to Foreign or Second Language Acquisition. 

The presenter of these sessions designed and implemented full-immersion programmes in three schools : one bilingual, one with three languages and one offering five languages. As a teacher, a majority of his students scored the highest marks possible in international First Language English and English Literature evaluations, despite the majority not speaking English at home. The Philosophy and Practice explored is practical and effective.
