Leadership Philosophy & Practice : Leading a Department, getting started


Leading a Department, an introduction for new (in their first or second year of appointment) and prospective Heads of Department, Academic Directors and Heads of Section. Experienced middle managers will also find this programme of interest.

This eight-hour programme includes the following one-hour sessions :

  • Introduction : Leading a Department
  • Mind Your Language; developing a Departmental Mission
  • Developing and Implementing a Departmental Handbook
  • Departmental Finances
  • Your Programme Matters
  • Evaluating Teachers v Staff Appraisal
  • Widening Your Departmental Footprint; English in the school and the community
  • Planning and Running Events : English Week

Objectives

An exploration of the meaning(s) and implications of each of the session topics with authentic, real-life examples.

Formats

This programme of eight one-hour interactive seminars is available in both in-person and online formats. 

  • A = 8 x 1 hour sessions
  • B = 4 x 2-hour sessions
  • C = semi-intensive (half-day) = 2 x 2-hour sessions plus a 30-minute cofee break
  • D  = intensive (full-day) = 4 x 2-hour sessions plus two 30-minute coffee and one one-hour lunch breaks

Each session is also available as a stand-alone or in any other combination.
