Tabletop Science for Lower Primary

Science in Lower Primary should not be a subject. For students, Science should be an exploration of the world around them while they develop scientific inquiry and learn how to follow scientific practice. For teachers, Science should be incorporated into daily activities and into the regular classroom. A laboratory and specialist equipment are not required; this science can be done on top of a table.

This one-hour Philosophy & Practice (methodology) seminar reviews the practice of tabletop science, and how to incorporate national and international curriculum standards using this aproach through examples of quick, easy, effective and teacher-friendly activities. Contents include the place of tabletop science and other programme considerations, equipment, planning and set-up, ideas for activities and resources.

This session is especially useful for teachers in experiential programmes such as Cambridge Primary, High Scope, IBPYP, Montessori and Reggio.

Also available :

  • Lower Primary Tabletop Science Activities I (the introductory overview session is a pre-requisite for this)
  • Lower Primary Tabletop Science Activities II
  • Lower Primary Tabletop Science Activities III (in development)
