English has five articles and one non-article (not counting negative and interrogative forms), each with specific semantic and grammatical functions. This one-hour single-topic session reviews the meaning and purpose of articles, and compares and contrasts the six uses. Of course, vocabulary and semantics are involved.
This Advanced Grammar session focusses on accuracy, appropriacy and on developing the speaker's range, while considering :
- Usages, idiomatic and figurative
- Related structures and vocabulary
- Uses and misuses
and is especially useful for Advanced English as a Foreign Language (EFL) users moving into the English as a Second Language (E2L) sphere. However E2L and E1L level users will also find this session useful.
During the one-hour live online session, we review specific and challenging usages, and discuss any instances with which participants have difficulties; depending on time, we also review other topics which may arise.
This session leads into "Advanced Use of Articles II" and parallels "Advanced Vocabulary : Counting Uncountables".
These are one-hour online video-conferencing sessions; an in-person, face-to-face option is also available. A C1 or higher level of English is assumed.
