Literary Circles - "The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane

A Literary Circle is a guided discussion about a literary work, reviewing its surface meanings and exploring what lies beyond, why a work is significant, why it lasts and what it can show us about ourselves and each other.

In this Circle's four one-hour sessions, we consider Crane's memorable and influential text, what happens, and what we learn about the setting and the characters. We then consider possible themes and Crane's "message", its historical context and relevance, and some of the stylistic devices he uses.
  • The text is sent as a pdf prior to the first session.
  • Fees are payable in advance by transfer.
  • Held via Google Meet.
  • The group size is limited to allow for participation.
Please contact us with any queries, for registration information or to be placed on an interest list for other events.

Ask us about a closed session where you choose who, what, when or to be placed on the interest list for the next open session.
