Open-group preparation for the Cambridge English C1 Advanced (formerly known as "CAE") Examination. We cover knowing and understanding the examination and its components, Practice of & Feedback on each component, and success and preparation strategies. Whether you are registering for the examination, or are considering it and want to know how to succeed, this programme provides what you need to know.
The 30-hour open group programme is comprised of thirty one-hour sessions, online via Meet, aiming at the June and July 2024 C1 Advanced examination sessions. Two options :
(a) 6.00 - 7.00pm, Mondays / Wednesdays / Fridays, 18 March - 31 May Knock a session out of the park before settling down for dinner.
(b) 9.00 - 10.00pm, Mondays / Wednesdays / Thursdays, 18 March - 31 May Put the kids to bed, kick back and relax with an exam prep session.
- Introduction, overview, understanding the examination and its Papers and Components / tasks, what is being examined and how, formats, dates, local re-sellers, common mistakes and misunderstandings, general strategies for success : 2 sessions
- Reading & Use of English : component reviews, markschemes, maximising your score, specific success tactics, Practice & Feedback, preparation strategies : 15 sessions
- Speaking & Listening : component reviews, markschemes, maximising your score, specific success tactics, Practice & Feedback, preparation strategies : 5 sessions
- Writing : component reviews (Essay, Review, Report), markschemes, maximising your score, specific success tactics, Practice & Feedback, preparation strategies : 5 sessions
- Problem Clinics and Student Choice of topic : 3 sessions
Although reasons for and explanations of responses to particular questions and/or tasks will be explored, this is not a language acquisition and development programme.
Fees apply on a sliding scale from $107.500 for the 6.00pm group, or $99.000 for the 9.00pm group depending on group size. Please ask about institutional rates.
Groups have a maximum of eight group members to allow for participation. Depending on group size, registration may also be open to those interested in only one component, for example Writing.
