Student-led and student-centred reading checks

Student-led and student-centred learning means the teacher taking a back-seat, and the activities and thus learning and assessment* driving what happens in the classroom. Such an approach can also be used with reading.

Assigning reading before a class (aka as "flipped learning") allows you more time in class for language development and the exploration of ideas. But how can you ask students to run before you have checked to se if they can crawl? Join us as we explore reading checks - how to know a student that has read a text before anything else occurs.

This highly-effective and teacher-friendly series has four levelled sessions, intended to be taken in this order :
  • Session I = Philosophy & Practice of teaching reading and reading comprehension overview, the role of the teacher and two plug-and-play student activities
  • Session II = Four more plug-and-play student activities
  • Session III = Advanced plug-and-play student activities
  • Session IV = More advanced plug-and-play student activities
While the sessions, input materials and activities are in English, these approaches can also be be used in Spanish / Lengua classes. Suitable for Foreign Language (national curriculum), bilingual and Lang&Lit programmes at all levels; these sessions use a G4 text as sample material which can then be used as plug-and-play activities.
