Speaking comes naturally to humans; the first thing babies do is to tell us they have arrived! However, there is speaking and then there is speaking, and schools and teachers have a role and a responsibility in helping students speak better.
Speaking is of course not a single skiils, but a collection of skills which should be developed individually and collectively and, as with any skill or skills, Speaking passes through identifiable stages of development.
Speaking is also culturally-specific and is closely related to language learning, not only in an EFL programme but also in E2L and E1L. Speaking academically is distinct from speaking socially; speaking publically or transactionally is not the same as speking with friends.
This session provides an overview of Speaking both in a school context and outside, different forms of Speaking, assessment and evaluation, and how these might appear in a PK - 12 programme.
These are one-hour online video-conferencing sessions; an in-person, face-to-face option is also available. A C1 or higher level of English is assumed.
