Chile's recent constitutional plebiscite prompts the question of how to use news reports on current events in an English class. The answer is that it's easy : task, not text. This session reviews a simple, teacher-friendly and highly-effective lesson structure which provides a language-rich, reading-comprehension and authentic discussion plan.
This session comes from our Reading Methodology series and while aimed at Middle School (2º ciclo) / High School (media) teachers, the model can be adapted for use with E2L and E1L programmes, and with younger students. Even three year-old pre-readers can succeed in newspaper-based activities. (Ask us how).
A C1 or higher level of English is assumed.
This is a one-hour synchronous online video conferencing session; an in-person, face-to-face option is also available.
